Clenbuterol is classified as a Schedule 7 controlled substance

The Medicines and Related Substances Act, No. 101 of 1965, governs controlled substances in South Africa.

Schedule 7 substances, according to this Act, are those with a significant potential for misuse and no acknowledged medical purpose in therapy.

Clenbuterol is classified as a performance-enhancing drug with a high potential for misuse, and it is not approved for medical usage in South Africa. Many sportsmen utilize it to lose weight while maintaining muscular mass.

The penalty for possession of clenbuterol without a prescription in South Africa may depend on the circumstances of the offence, such as the quantity of the substance and the intent of the individual.

Possession of a small amount of clenbuterol for personal use may result in a fine, while possession of a larger quantity or intent to distribute may result in a more severe penalty, such as imprisonment.

Clenbuterol brands available in South Africa

These brands are formulations of clenbuterol that are used for the treatment of respiratory conditions, such as asthma.

Ventipulmin is a brand of clenbuterol that is manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim, a pharmaceutical company based in Germany. It is available in oral syrup and inhalation solution form and is used to treat horses and other animals with respiratory conditions.

Spiropent is another brand of clenbuterol that is manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim. It is available in tablet form and is also used to treat horses and other animals with respiratory conditions.

Some other brand include UPA CLENBUTEROL and EU Pharmaceuticals Clenbuterol 40.

It is important to note that these brands of clenbuterol are only available with a prescription from a licensed medical practitioner and are not approved for use as performance-enhancing drugs.

South Africans being arrested for possession and use of clenbuterol.

Athletes caught using illegal substances are usual banned from sports for a certain amount of time. In repeated cases, they are banned for life from competing in professional sports.

In one case, a South African athlete was banned from competition for 3 years 9 months from all sports. It’s a mix martial arts fighter named Marcel Teniers. He was tested positive on Clenbuterol. His ban will be completed on the 23rd of February 2023.

Another athlete caught with clen was Tanya Pieterse [1], which got a 4 year ban from sports (later reduce to 3 year ban). She’s a 400m runner and was caught also using oxandrolone (which is best known for anavar). Both these drugs are used for losing weight and improving athletic performance.
